You’re looking at a little colourful LED light box, the kind of shitty consumer entertainment gimmick that you might come across in a discount toy shop. It’s not clear who actually buys those things, whose attentional pull fades as quickly as I’d lost interest in building this one. Objects like this make me sad. It lacks the dazzling sway of high-tech, but doesn’t have the chic nostalgia of a retro item going for it either. It just sits there, on uncomfortable middle ground, pining for our attention with its little flashing lights. Its time has passed, once, and it’s not clear if it will ever come again.
